I’ll call it fiction.
Where names appear, they are not as they were;
I would not like to turn the corner of a book and find myself
dressed in someone else’s words.
These are not photographs but impressionist portraits:
an eye here, an ear over there, hands anywhere,
some pieces left out entirely.
The People are in disguise.
The Land is presented as it is and was,
is presented as itself.
The Land needs no protection from,
is neither embarrassed by nor charmed by, Human words.
